Thu, 25th Jun 2009   New Delhi: Indian national football team skipper Bhaichung Bhutia is gearing up for the two camps in Dubai and Spain to prepare for Nehru Cup. But Bhutia is also concerned about his future in Indian club football. The Sikkimese Sniper has already signed with East Bengal for a year after being suspended by Mohun Bagan for six months.
He spoke to CNN-IBN about his future plans.
CNN-IBN: Do you believe Mohun Bagan is trying to destroy your career now?
Bhaichung Bhutia: Definitely, if they can take a such decision for a player like me who has given 16 years to Indian football and also for Mohun Bagan. We won three trophies last year and I was the captain of the club. After doing all that to the national team now they have decided to suspend me for six months without pay. I am shocked. I am very disappointed and hurt as well.
CNN-IBN: Are you going to give up football?
Bhaichung Bhutia: No, I am not going to give up football, I have meeting on 9th (July 9) of next month with the executive. I am hoping for the best and want to play football again. I have full faith with the IFA and FFA.
CNN-IBN: You have changed the look of the team and you are the perfect ambassador of Indian football team. You are soft spoken, humble, and hardworking… more important you are winner in the field and also winner of a dance show. You are damn good. Why don't you consider perhaps a career outside football?
Bhaichung Bhutia: I don’t think I should consider it. But I feel good being a football player. I got an opportunity to perform in a reality show and I won it. I am happy for it as people supported me and gave me this honour. I was shocked, as people around the country SMSed me and supported me. I am thankful to Jhalak Dhikla Jaa... good experience for me and I enjoyed a lot.
CNN-IBN: What about your coach? What is his role and did he took sides with you or he was non committed?
Bhaichung Bhutia: I think he was non -committal. That is fair enough and his part of view. I can only say good luck to Mohun Bagan with such people in the club, who take such decision for their players.  |
