Pamper your skin this winter

Thu, 19th Nov 2009   (165 Hits) HindustanTimes.com

Dry and flaky skin is the most common complaint in winters. HT City speaks to experts for tips on tackling winter woes.

For dry elbows, knuckles, knees, feet and buttocks — mix one cup oatmeal, five tablespoons honey, a pinch of saffron and one mashed avocado. Make a paste of these in milk and rub on the affected areas.

For very dry facial skin, mix two to three spoons of honey with one teaspoon of olive oil and massage onto the face.

For combination skin, mash papaya and mix it with milk. Apply on the face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash it off.

Using a night cream is a must during winters as the skin tends to repair itself during the night and becomes soft and supple. Coconut or olive oil can also be used to moisturise the skin. Massage it onto the face and wipe it off later with wet cotton.

Cleansing make-up with coconut oil, vitamin E oil, sesame oil or olive oil helps remove impurities without making the skin dry.

Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated.

Don’t use soap for washing the face. Grind a few almonds and mix with some milk. Apply on the face instead of soap every morning. Wash it off with clean water.

Use a home-made body scrub of dried orange peel, rose petals and besan mixed with water and apply on the body for deep cleansing once a week.

Put a few drops of oil in water before taking a shower. This will help retain the moisture lost during bathing.

Wipe face every night with jojoba oil. This will help remove impurities and keep the skin hydrated.
